Fantasy Injury Updates: Is Noah Fant playing this week?

Sporting News — (Jacob Camenker)

Against the Jets in Week 4, Noah Fant was carted off the field with an ankle injury. At the time, things didn't look good for the talented tight end, but he was declared week-to-week after the game. By Sunday, he will be two-and-a-half weeks removed from the injury, so fantasy football owners will naturally want to know if he's playing this week or if they need to hit the waiver wire in search of a replacement. Here are the latest updates about Fant's injury and how it will impact our Week 6 fantasy TE rankings and your start 'em, sit 'em decisions.

Is Noah Fant playing in Week 6?

UPDATE 3: Fant was downgraded to "out" on Saturday and will miss Week 6.

UPDATE 2: Fant is officially "questionable" for Week 6 and will be a game-time decision.

UPDATE: Fant was limited in practice on Thursday.

Fant (ankle) was limited in Broncos practice on Wednesday, according to the team's official injury report. The fact that he was back on the field even in a limited session is a good sign, but it doesn't guarantee that he will play in Week 6.

Fant will have to continue to practice in a limited fashion at least on Thursday and Friday to have a chance at playing against the Patriots. He may be a true game-time decision after being ruled out last Friday before the scheduled Week 5 Broncos-Patriots game was postponed, so fantasy owners will need to have a plug-and-play backup option ready in case Fant can't play.

If Fant can't play, Tim Patrick and Jerry Jeudy will continue to get most of the targets for the Broncos with Fant, Courtland Sutton (torn ACL), and KJ Hamler (hamstring) sidelined. Nick Vannett would be the top TE in Denver if Fant is out, but Vannett won't have any fantasy value given that he has two catches for just a single yard this season.

Our Week 6 TE rankings contain other top streaming options at the position, including Eric Ebron, Jordan Akins, and Irv Smith Jr., for Fant owners looking for a contingency plan.
